Cattle

Orkney Auction Mart sold 20 prime cattle, 8 store cattle and 36 Over Thirty Month cattle through the ring on Monday, 31st January.

Prime heifers sold to 166p/kg, for a 545kg Belgian Blue x, from Flett, Hurtiso, Holm, which realised £904.70 to E Flett, Butcher, Stromness.

Other leading prime heifer prices: Pow, Sandwick (510 kg) 161p (£821.10); Howe, Harray (570) 161p (£917.70); Swanbister, Orphir (570) 157p (£894.90); Nigley, Evie (590) 157p (£926.30); Easterbister, Holm (635) 154p (£977.90); Cotland, St Ola (645) 148p (£954.60); Redland, Firth (570) 157p (894.90); Chinyan, Dounby (545) 157p (£855.65); Netherhill, Tankerness (545) 157p (£855.65).

Prime steers sold to 161p/kg for a 695kg Belgian Blue x, from Clark, Stratheast, Holm, which realised £1,118.95 to a South buyer.

Other leading prime steer prices: Russamyre, Orphir (840 kg) 154p (£1,293.60); Stratheast, Holm (615) 157p (£965.55).

A small entry of store cattle saw store steers sell to 157.4p/kg for a Limousin cross from Eunson, Staye, Deerness which scaled 575 kg’s and realised £905. Store heifers sold to 147.4p/kg for a Limousin cross also from Staye which scaled 570 kg’s and realised £840.

Over Thirty Month cattle averaged 103.8p/kg, and sold to a top of 137.9p, for a 580kg Simmental x cow, from Wood, Pow, Sandwick which realised £800.

Top price per head for cows was £940 for a Simmental cow from Wylie, Easter Greenigoe, Orphir, which scaled 735kg (127.9p/kg).

Orkney Auction Mart sold 15 prime cattle and 58 Over Thirty Month cattle through the ring on Monday, 10th January.

Prime steers sold to 175p/kg, for a 630kg Belgian Blue x, from Clark, Stratheast, Holm, which realised £1102.50, to a South buyer.

Prime heifers sold to 168p/kg for a 595kg Charolais x, from Henry, Howe, Harray, which realised £999.60 to E Flett & Co, Butcher, Stromness.

Over Thirty Month cattle maintained a steady trade, averaging 101.07p/kg, and selling to a top of 135.7p, for a 700kg Simmental x cow, from Stout, Whitehall, Stronsay which realised £950.

Top price per head for cows was £1,060 for an Angus cow from Binscarth Farms, Firth, which scaled 925kg (114.6p/kg).

Over Thirty Month bulls sold to 109.2p/kg for a Limousin, from Stout, Whitehall, Stronsay, which scaled 1090kg and realised £1190, this was also the top price per head for OTM bulls.

Sheep

579 Prime lambs and 452 Cast sheep were sold on Monday 22 November

Prime lambs sold to 162.8/kg, for a pen of 32 Texel x, from Ritch, Sandside, Graemsay which scaled 43kg and realised £70.

Top price per head was £71 for a Char from Slater, Millquoy, Stenness
